Culture and festivals A diverse range on offer – art and culture are at home in Tuttlingen At the latest since the opening of the Stadthalle in 2002, Tutt- lingen is a cultural center of the region. Over 100 events, such as concerts, theater events or shows, are held every season. The team of the Tuttlinger Hallen also organizes several series of events, which give the city a special profile: in the Angerhal- le, in the district of Möhringen, the “stage in the Anger“ has become the meeting place not only for cabaret and comedy friends, especially when Tuttlingens renowned “Tuttlinger Krähe“ cabaret award is handed out in April. Another highlight of the year is the Honberg Summer: the festival in the castle ruins offers classics as well as popular stars of numerous genres on the stage in the circus tent - and lures to top it all over two and a half weeks with one of the most beautiful beer gardens far and wide. In close proximity to Tuttlingen, one of Germany‘s top 10 festivals takes place with the Southside with over 60,000 visitors coming every year. Many exhibitions in the Gallery of the City of Tuttlingen are also of supra-re- gional importance. In addition to works by artists from Baden-Württemberg, works by internationally known artists such as Frank Stella and Günter Uecker can also be seen regularly. Around the Danube the Tuttlinger celebrate the city festival in September. The cultural program also attracts as many visitors as the international range of culinary delicacies. The Gauklerfest in May is similar. Here, the inner city re- gularly changes into a large open-air stage. Although Tuttlingen is traditionally evangelical, the Fasnet has also establis- hed itself in the city. With the “Kischtemännle“ a particularly lovable figure emerged, and the carnival parades fill the streets in Tuttlingen and the dis- tricts. The Fasnet in the district of Möhringen is especially traditional. The Schemengericht am Schmotzigen Thursday is one of the oldest carnival cus- toms in the country. 267
